Polleros abandon more than 200 migrants in Chicoloapan, Edomex – El Sol de México

A group of more than 200 foreign people and without permission to remain in the country, were located by elements of the Police of Chicoloapanafter being abandoned by the polleros who would allegedly take them to the northern border.

According to a local police source, on Wednesday night an anonymous call to the command center alerted the authorities that inside an industrial warehouse located in the streets of the Santa Cecilia neighborhood, several trucks suspiciously dropped off a group of people.

Police officers arrived at the warehouse aboard several units, where they found 208 people, among them: 10 minors, 28 women and 170 men from Egypt, Cuba, India, Palestine, Nepal, Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran and the Dominican Republic.

Aboard Municipal Police buses, the migrants were transferred to the Chicoloapan DIF facilities, where they were offered medical care and food supplies, until personnel from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), in coordination with the National Institute of Immigration (INM), transferred them to a safe place for their stay in the country.

Giovanni Lepri, representative of the high commissioner of la United Nations Organization (UN) for Refugees, recognized that until four years ago, the migrants who arrived in Mexico came mainly from the countries of northern Central America, but the current data is people from more than 100 countries on different continents.

According to the UN Refugee Agency, in recent years people from Haiti make up the largest number of migrants who arrive in Mexico to achieve the American dream.
